Let's get one thing straight, in today's society of young children growing up with crooked teeth and ugly smiles, there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
Most people have often thought that the only way to straighten their child's teeth is to have braces and most are told that a few teeth will need to be removed.
Many parents unhappily agree to having teeth removed before braces and so many tell me that their gut feeling was that it wasn't right. I don't know one family who wanted to have teeth cut out. Kids and parents dread the whole idea.
There is a much kinder and less hurtful way to have your child treated with great results and terrific looking teeth in the long run.
The Myobrace is a new concept in orthodontic treatment, incorporating a design that aligns the teeth and jaws, while correcting the underlying habits that cause the crooked teeth. The key to this treatment is starting early, preferably in the 6 to 12 age group. By starting early you will have the greatest chance of avoiding extractions and braces.
The Myobrace straightens teeth just like braces as it twists and rotates teeth into the ideal position. It is more gentle and comfortable than braces. You do no have to wait until the baby teeth have fallen out, in fact, this device need to be worn when there is a mixture of baby teeth and permanent teeth erupted.
It is highly successful around the world with 67 countries using the Myobrace and early treatment.
When there is simply no room to straighten the teeth I expand the dental arch using expansion plates. This widens the jaw to allow the Myobrace to straighten the teeth. The kids adapt to wearing the plates really well and it is not for that long.
Most cases involve the child wearing the plate for 6 to 9 months, sometimes even shorter. They choose their favourite colour for their plate like purple with sparkles and get used to it very quickly.
If I meet a child who is over 12 or an adult who wants to straighten their teeth I still expand the arch with plates rather than pull teeth out.
The older patients have braces after plates as it is too late for the Myobrace. That is why it is the best to gain space and develop the jaws when the child is still growing between the ages of 6 and 10.
By not removing teeth and developing the jaw the smile will be broader and the face more attractive. Parents are traveling to see me from all over Australia, including Tasmania, Canberra, Adelaide, N.T. as well as regional Victoria. This is because the Myobrace is not fully understood by their local Dentist and so they come to me to get an opinion.
They have usually been told that their child needs braces and often extractions. As the demand grows Dentists will want to be in the know and find out what this is all about. To satisfy this interest the CEO Dr. Chris Farrell is organizing an Australian Training Symposium for Dentists wanting to learn about the early treatment system.
Many Dentists will be attending from the 67 countries around the world already using this treatment for young kids.
If your Dentists doesn't know about it do everyone a favour and tell them about what you have heard.
